The Mortgage Corporation

Hi folks.
Many, many apologies if this has been asked/discussed before, but my late ex-husband somehow managed to remortgage our home in the late 1980s with The Mortgage Corporation. I found out that he remortgaged our old £30k Mortgage with Barclays Bank to TMC with a £110k mortgage. Before he died, I never found out what he did with the extra £80k, but I saw none of it. As far as I am concerned, I never signed the remortgage papers. As he’d forged my signature on other paperwork, it may have happened again. The first I knew if any of this was when I happened to be at home one day in 1991 and I was served with repossession papers. TMC sold my house, then worth £250k for £120k to cover the mortgage and their “costs”. I did find out we were paying an astronomical interest rate of about 15%. Note, at the time we bought the house we had £30k mortgage and £60k of my inheritance from my dad to finance the purchase.

As my ex husband moved to France and has since died, I have no means of finding out if I was charged PPI, unnecessary fees or anything else. As this idiot of an ex husband abandoned me and our three children and left us homeless, and it took me 15 years to get back on the property ladder, I would very much like to look into TMC and see if there is anything I can do to recoup lost funds.

I’ve googled TMC but they’ve disappeared.

Can anyone help with how to find what happened to TMC, who is now responsible for that former company’s clients and what I can do to find out about what was paid to them?

Any help very gratefully received.

Thank you

TMC was arranged via brokers. Brokers were not regulated until January 2005. So, this makes yours pre-regulation.
