I have been given a PS3 without any controllers or anything. Can anyone suggest the most cost effective way of getting it up and running?

Ebay might be an option for the controllers.

From recollection it uses a standard three point cable for the power so any similar cable would work for plugging it into the wall. Often used for kettles and toasters.

For AV any cheap HDMI cable.

I’d consider investing in a new controller for battery life, but eBay/CEX/GAME will sell you a cheap second hand one.

A free PS account will give access to demos and free games (need internet access), or CEX/GAME for very cheap second hand games.

    Happy gaming!

OP, might be worth asking around people you know who have a PS4. I had a PS3 in a cupboard for a couple of years after switching up, and somebody at work was asking about PS3 games - gave him all my games and controllers/cables etc. as it was all just gathering dust.

It depends what ps3 model it is. The older phat ps3’s have a different shaped slot compared to the ps3 slim for the power cable. The slim does have the same as a ps4 though.

In that case i dont think a ps4 power cable would fit it. Also the cable for connecting the controller when charging it has a different fitting at the controller end on a ps3 compared to a ps4.
