Woolwich single mortgage and joint account

HI
Does anyone know if the following is true - I have very little faith in the operator I spoke to on the basis we could barely understand each other.
DH has a mortgage in his own name for the house.
We wanted to start paying the mortgage from our joint account and close down his old one.
Apparently, Woolwich cannot set up a direct debit from a joint account if both names are not on the mortgage.
The solution is to cancel the DD and set up a standing order which is fine and we will.
But it sounds like a load of smelly male cow deposits.

Assuming your joint account is an "either to sign" and not a "both to sign" current account, that is a load of crap.woolythoughts wrote: »HI

It is set up as either to sign.0

Perhaps easiest to just not tell Woolwich it's a joint account. I have a joint account and have successfully set up DDs quoting the account name solely as mine. As long as either party can sign it shouldn't cause an issue.0

This strikes me as very odd.
The bank account is as much your husband's account as if it were a sole account!
It used very often to be the case that a property was in a husband's sole name and many husbands and wives had only a joint bank account!
Can you simply add your name to his existing account from which the mortgage is paid?
Then use the switching service to switch this account to your existing joint account - should obviate any problem?0 -
Well we tried that. Adding me to the Santander account mr woolly had.
Unfortunately you can’t do it over the phone and have to book in advance an appointment at our local branch. But they can’t do Fridays or Saturdays which are the only working days I am home.
So we had to open a new account on line and because we wanted the Santander again we had to move all the dds manually.0 -

Once you'd opened the new joint account on line, there was no option for your husband to ring the Santander switching service to move his sole account to the new joint?0
