P11D - Slightly different from the other thread

Options
Long time reader, first time poster.

I was working for a company for 6 months of the previous tax year, but through a series of unfortunate events i was unable to work for the rest of the tax year. Therefore, I am due a rebate but the previous company have not produced the P11D. They have stated that they do not have to do this before the 5th / 6th July. Is there anything that I can do to hurry this along, as this would be very, very useful.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

6 July is the employer’s deadline for submitting P11D data for the previous tax year to HMRC and issuing a form P11D to the relevant employees. There’s nothing to say that an employer cannot file and/or issue P11D *before* 6 July, apart from not having done the necessary work. I suppose you could ask the former employer’s payroll department if it might be possible to expedite the production of yours? But whether or not they would be prepared to do so is up to them.

I am in the same position, I have a diary note to chase on 7th July if not received beforehand (I hope to get it in the next couple of weeks to get my rebate sorted)

I asked my payroll today and they confirmed I cannot get it before July.

Why do you require the actual P11D? Ask your employer to confirm the expected figure and (if they are willing to provide that) HMRC should accept that. I told HMRC my expected figure via online chat and they didn’t require evidence (they can of course ask later, and they get their own copies of the P11D eventually anyway).

If the eventual figure is materially different then it will obviously need to be corrected and could mean your rebate has been over or under stated.

My employer said they cannot provide these figures and I need to wait for the form to be mailed

I used to do a job where we produced P11D forms and part of the problem was benefit providers (Aviva, Denplan etc) being slow to provide end of tax year invoices. The only one that was helpful was vitality health who gave us a whole tax year summary. The others just gave us a monthly invoice and left us to work everything out

That make sense why the employer is not willing to give you numbers. I think it is better wait till July than going through 12 payslips and trying to figure out the amount yourself and make a mistake . At least for me.
