Charged basic pay tax TWICE

So for last month's pay I got charged basic pay rate. I contacted tax office on May 1st to change it and they said they did and I got a letter confirming my new tax code HOWEVER on my most recent payslip [may] I've been charged BR again! Thoroughly annoyed as the tax office said they'd amended it and I'd be paid proper amount this month and the tax I'd overpaid repaid to Me!

Please help ? I don't wanna have to wait 30 minutes on bloody hold again for this.

maybe your employer did not receive the tax code from HMRC in time for the May payroll run...have you confirmed they now have it?

You don't need to spend any time on hold to HMRC, this is something that your employer needs to sort out, if they haven't already done it as Caz suggests.

It's very haphazard whether your employer will have actually received an amended PAYE code from HMRC. HMRC's systems are pretty shocking. We are a payroll bureau and often get emails from HMRC saying there's been a new PAYE code issued (but unhelpfully never state the employer/employee name), then when we login to the HMRC system, there's nothing there in the "recent notices" section.

If the OP wants it sorting out quickly, they need to contact HMRC themselves to check (a) that a new PAYE code has been issued and (b) if so, can they issue it again in case the first one didn't get through to the employer.

OP, have you set up your personal tax account?

This can be used to manage your details.

I find that the code notices themselves only appear about 24 hours after we receive the email telling us that we have a new notice!
