Help with full and final payment pleeeaase

Hi guys,
I'm after some help and guidence with a full and final payment offer. The debt is from a Halifax credit card back in 2005 (I think) of £1900. Since then it has gone from collection agency to collection agency and in between I got some debt management and started to pay £1 a month. Through one thing or another this payment stopped and I ended up with a ccj in 2014. I continued to bury my head in the sand but the debt has been again passed on to debt agency's and now sit with Lowell solicitors with an amount of over £2700.
I done a bit on reading on here and NBL and sent them a full and final settlement letter via email. I used the template explaining a could offer a lump sum of £700. The money is being offered to me by a friend and lowell are now asking me if this money is a gift or a loan? I'm unsure what I should tell them?
I would be grateful for some advice please
