The War against plastic waste

I bought some scraps of Christmas designs fabric from a market stall, and some matching coloured bits of ribbon. I will be using this instead of wrapping paper this year. One life - your life - live it!0

I had a mini win at work this week. We didn't have anywhere to collect used tins to recycle so I took it upon myself to set up recycling stations on each floor. There is a bucket for card, tins, plastic bottles and glass. A colleague is taking the glass home to recycle, I'm taking the tins home to recycle and the card and plastic bottles get collected by an outside company. I wasn't expecting anybody to make use of the facilities but although I only set this going on Wednesday they seem to have embraced it and I have got a bucket full of tins to put in the recycling. One small step but I am pleased with it.Lisa x

That's excellent CLH, if there were more people who just got on and did stuff like this those small steps would become giant strides!0

I am amused & slightly proud to announce Scouts sell a set of stainless steel straws & brush all in a hessian bag £3.50 for 3 straws & a brush but then postage is £3.99 so absolutely shrewd to buy in cahoots.
If you have a scout in your life, or a guide trying to live up to the plastic promise, this might be welcome present?1 -
National Trust do pack of 6 for £8, and a few of the places I've been to over the summer had them in their shops:

I see Aldi are to start selling reusable bags for loose fruit and vegetables - for 25 pence.
Given my local Lidl has stopped making them visible, I rather wonder how much of this is cheap advertising & "greenwashing" not least as Aldi are notorious for their overpacking.
Still, as a seasonal giftlet, it'll do nicely.0 -
Hello
This may be a silly question but how do those of you using shampoo bars stop them from melting everywhere in the shower or when travelling?. I thought of getting an old fashioned soap box like we used to take on holiday in our toilet bags, but has anyone any other ideas please?Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget0 -

You either put them to dry out somewhere not wet or put them in a container. I use a tin one. Found it in the house, was used for a perfume bottle“You’re only here for a short visit.

I do like reusable straws but after reading about the dangers of non flexible ones I have since purchased a collapsible one with silicon ends for my daughter.“You’re only here for a short visit.

Thank you tboo, I have thought about re-purpising a tin but worried it might go rusty. I will get my thinking cap on.Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget0
