Do you bbq?

I’m thinking of buying a gas bbq. Does anyone have any recommendations for a small one? Does anyone know which one Which said was not worth buying in the April edition?

If you have one do you use it much? Are there old style things to do on a BBQ? We cook from scratch normally. I’m thinking home made coleslaw etc, maybe make our own burgers. Does anyone cook whole chicken on the bbq? I cook one a week and thought it might be an interesting way to do it.

If the weather is nice I think we could use it say twice a week for the two of us, then when friends are here, but it’s a big investment because the quality ones seem quite expensive (Weber, Heston etc) so I’m interested in your ideas please

I had a small one for years, got it cheap from Texas(DIY store for youngsters)

It had cast base and lid and lasted years outside.
Lava rock as a heat bed.

Used all year for anything that would work nearly all meat.
It heated up quick and good for 2 people a bit tight for 3 or 4.

Eventually the burner rusted through, and I got a deal on a weber.
Much better build quality etc but we don't use it as much as the super cheap small one.

    Look up beer can chicken
Burgers are easy, I use plastic round dishes that microwave food comes in to make a press(line with film).

You don't clean them often just heat up super hot and brush of the Ash.

The Weber is brilliant. We have the small gas one and it's big enough to cook a small chicken on it but not potatoes and veg as well. If we want to do roast potatoes and veg as well we cook the chicken first and then do the veg separately. We use this when out and about in caravan or motorhome.

We've also got a large charcoal one which we use in the garden, sometimes just for the 2 of us but really good for big numbers..

Definitely worth the extra money as so well built. They'll last for years.

I've had 5 gas barbeques in the last 20 years, 3 were b&q and last 2 years each, the 4th was a "global" brand that lasted 5 years. Finally I bought a weber that has lasted many years, all I've had to do is replace the ignition once. I would agree that weber is worth every penny

I’ve just watched a utube video on cleaning the Weber gas bbq. It looks a lot of effort, can I ask please how do you clean yours and how often do you replace the foil drip tray?

We had a charcoal weber barbecue which we used to do the Christmas turkey in when we lived abroad.
