But how does OP stop them from attending their property if they want to go away for a few days??
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

All they can do is write or call the bailiffs office, to be honest, i would go and do whatever i was planning to do, its very unlikely entry will be forced if no one is in, its a difficult one i grant you.

As a last resort, after speaking with them, if you feel you're not being listened to, could you not post a notice on your door along the lines of "To whom it may concern, Mr Joseph Bloggs does NOT reside at this address".

Might make them think twice if they do turn up your doorstep.

Yes,, it's a tricky one. But the likelihood is if they turn up and no-one is in, they will go away.

Bailiffs do not want to remove goods. Ignore the tv programmes - they are just entertainment. Bailiffs use harassment and pressure to get cash.

Put the position to them in writing and go on holiday. It's not your debt

We had debt collecters letters for our son coming to our home on a regular basis,I just wrote on the front “return to sender,no longer at this address” we never opened them.
When the debt collectors came to the door ,we said our son was sofa surfing and we had no idea where he was, eventually they stopped coming.

Slightly off topic and not asking the OP, more for the other users posting in here based on my own curiosity ... but assuming you have a folder full of receipts, will bailiffs accept that as as proof of ownership if you paid cash?

What's to say it isn't owned by the son and he just gave his parents the receipts?
If it's paid by card in the parents name then I guess that's proof but what about cash? ... is just having the receipt in your possession enough to deem ownership?

Normally all you need is a receipt, otherwise the possible senarios are endless, burdon of proof is usually satisfied by a printed piece of paper.

These are bayliffs we are discussing here, not debt collectors.
Debt collectors have no power whatsoever, wearas Bailiffs are acting on the authority of the court, big difference.

Hi - how do I tell the difference between a debt collector at the door and a bailiff. My son has countless (!!!) letters and different debts, some obviously more important than others.
Obviously I'll ask for ID, but what key factor will tell me the difference. And if they are a bailiff - would the suggestion of me handing the letters back stating no longer lives here be ok.
Literally all day yesterday and today I have been curtain dodging and scared of any movement near my house. Utterly ridiculous as I personally owe nothing!!!! I'm livid with my son putting me in this situation but I'm still v v unsure whether I ignore the door or open it when they do come. I have all receipts ready and his room is empty and void of anything valuable (didn't have to do anything as he sold anything he had of value anyway!!!) :-(

A debt collector you can tell to foxtrot oscar, a bailiff you can't.
