Please read this... Petition to our wonderful government on Fuel Prices.

Well hello everyone,
As like many others, I drive.. But i'm immensley hacked off at the latest prices showing up on those brightly lit petrol station forecourts...

A petition to our Prime Minister has been setup on the governments petition website.

The petition is asking our govenment to re-calculate the VAT we pay on fuel based on the actual fuel price, not including the duty we pay.
This should reduce the price per litre by roughly 9 pence.

If you are a british citizen, even if you do not drive, do your part and sign this petition...

Which tax would you like increased to make up for the reduced income?
  • It'll be better for our nation's health, and the good of the planet for us to drive less. I have no problems with a rise in fuel prices.

I agree. Tax on fuel and motoring is far too low and should be increased to reduce the amount of fossil fuel consumed so we all live longer as the nation's health improves.

    lmao :T

Lets raise duty by another £5 per litre.

Oh, but that will probably mean a loaf of bread now cost £3 hmm maybe not such a good idea

Better idea, start a petition to increase fuel duty and abolish Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax).

That way those who use the roads the most pay more.

Whats most annoying is that as soon as prices went over £1.00 a litre barrier the greedy companies thought it OK to carry on increasing the price hoping we wouldn't notice.

Locally we have a shell station that closed 8 weeks ago for building works. Price then 94.9p a litre for diesel. Price now at Tesco £1.05.9 I have seen £1.10.9 on the A146.

    Money grabbing .....

I toatally agree VED should be abolished. Surprised GB when cutting Civil Service jobs didn't act. I expect they want the extra VED from 2 car home. As adding VED to fuel prices would, in all likelyhood, mean a reduction in revenue from the 2nd vehicle.

Just think of how many dvla jobs they could get rid of if they scrapped VED, but how many of the people made redundant would ever vote labour in the future?

A petrol increase would be far fairer and would provide much more of an incentive to drive "greenly". The current bands are a joke and increasing the tax on 4x4's etc is nothing to do with the enviroment and is just an excuse to cream more tax off while attempting to appear eco friendly. A gas guzzling 6 litre car that does 1000 miles a year emits a damn site less co2 than a 1 litre that does 20000 miles yet pays more ved.
