Bailiffs

Options
Hi,
I had issue with some very pushy bailiffs who were threatening to put an extra £600 on top of the £220 they had already put on my debt if they had to call at my house. I was told by the girl in the office I had until midnight Friday but when I went to pay Friday morning I was told it was midnight Thursday. I know she said Friday and my letter had no day or date specified. I have the letter but they refuse to let me have a copy of the phone call. I do not want to let this go as these people are just bullying people and I can’t stand it! What’s my best course of action please? I did manage to pay them without the £600 for knocking my door! Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I couldn’t work out how to post a new thread.
Thanks for any help!

  • If you’ve paid them without the charge and they accepted it then what’s the issue?

They misinformed me and charged me 220 for it is what part of the problem is. The other part of the problem is the bullying tactics they use and the astrinomical charges they threaten you with. They won’t provide me with a copy of the recording where it’d prove they misinformed me so I’m asking for advice on how best to proceed. As stated

Bailiffs can charge certain fee`s dependant on the stage of the process :

Writing to you about your debt (called ‘compliance’) £75

Visiting your home (called ‘enforcement’) £235

Taking and selling your belongings (called 'sale') £110

Yes they put the 90 plus on for sending the letter. Next up the slapped 220 on for giving me the wrong deadline, stage one as he called it. He threatened me with a stage 2 fee for visiting the property of £600 and gave me 2hrs to find the money. As I’ve stated my issue is not only this bullying but the fact that they will not allow me to have a copy of or listen to the recording of the conversation I had where the girl stated I had until the Friday eve. I just wanted advice on how to proceed. But I can see I’ll get nowhere on here.
Thanks all for taking the time to answer anyway.

    On here? Or just generally?

I'm sure you'd like to hear that they must provide you with the conversation and you can claim back all your fines plus £1,000,000 in compensation if they don't, but that just isn't the case.

What would you like to hear?

Bailiff regulation leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunatly your experiance is not unique, been deliberatly obstructive, and issuing threats is normal daily routine for them, you can complain to the bailiffs trade association, but don`t expect to get very far.

Further regulation is very sorely needed if your experiance is anything to go by, parliament/ministry of justice are looking at this issue, but with Brexit, and now the resignation of the Prime Minister today, its gone on the back burner for now.
