Entering competitions when abroad

I'm off on holiday today and usually enter competitions whilst away. With the end of the month looming I don't know whether to take time out to do it as saw someone say they wouldn't count due to the IP address been no abroad. I would appreciate it if anyone knows x

A holiday is a holiday (even from comping) ... go relax and have a good time :)

but if you really want to comp, technically they could check your IP address IF they have the coding in place to register your IP address, but I doubt most people will ... as long as it's a UK phone number and UK address that the prize is being sent to I wouldn't imagine it mattered all that much, especially not on smaller competitions. Terms mostly say "residents of the UK", which you are.

There are things you can do like leave your Home PC on and connect to it via Remote Desktop, then just enter the competitions through there, that would be just like entering from your home, or you could use a VPN to simulate a UK connection, but that all is a bit of hassle just to enter competitions.

If I were you, I'd not bother, you can catch up when you get back ... sometimes people seem to get lucky after they've taken a wee break from comping ... it's like the comping fairy missed you or feared you would never come back so rewards you.

You might be able to find free ones but I haven't looked.

    What is a VPN?

    What is Remote Desktop?

I like to relax and forget about comping (my fav hobby), But its hard! So now i tend to relax on the bed by the pool or in a chair and do the odd facebook or twitter comp just to get my fix. I tend to win when i am always away or just before i go away so i have to ask them toe delay posting lol.

My broadband provider acquired some IP addresses that were originally allocated to a US provider. Pinpointing a location from an IP address is down to third party web service companies and most of them are very poor. When I was allocated one of these "US" IPs there were a few sites that I could not access or they redirected me to their US partner site. One or two gave me "comp not valid in your territory" messages. I have no idea of whether I was DQ'd from any comps after my entry was accepted. One of my banks made me jump through extra hoops whenever I accessed my account. On the other hand, I could access several videos that are blocked when you are in the UK.

I now have a fixed IP that the IP locating services believe is in the UK, but they vary widely where in the UK they think I am. This is shown up by adverts such as "People in Ilford go crazy for laser Eye surgery" and "Hundreds in Reading are claiming PPI refunds"

You can check where these services think you are located:
