Does it get any better lol

Hi,
I know I shouldn't complain but it has only been a couple of weeks since we found out how bad things are and it is really telling on us. We have no heat in the house as there is no way we are using any more electricity and we don't have gas, the most we could run to for Sunday lunch is a baked potato, we got a sack for a fiver and are planing on a potato diet for the next few weeks. I am sure there are people far worse off than us, I just wish it was not so cold, I think a hot water bottle and bed maybe an option. The good news is we have only spent £4.60 in total this week, so we will be able to pay a bit of our massive debt off.

    Hi Justin.

Good for you! Snuggle up and keep warm.

PS If you can afford to buy cheese then cheese and potato pie is good.

I know how you feel i finally gave in and turned on my heating last week as it was soooooo freezing. Any way i had to turn it on for next weekend as my future MIL is visiting and don't want her thinking her son is going to be living at a polar icecap.

Well done on such a low spend week.

I know what you mean about jacket potatoes I seem to live on them and beans or egg on toast lol.

I must get easier I hope  I'm still very early in my debt free journey so don't know for sure.

We can do this and just think how much easier life will be once all those pesky debts gone.

  • I'm almost permanently wearing a fleece dressing gown over my clothes these days! After a £200 leccy bill last year, I don't want those clowns at Scottish Power to try and take any more money off me! Last quarters bill was down to £80 and it was sooooooo worth it!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • layers of very thinly sliced potatoes, thinly sliced onion and the cheapest cheddar grated on top, sprinkle with a bit of ground nutmeg, pour over some milk and pop it in the oven until the potato is soft and the cheese is golden. then eat it in front of the oven with the door open - no point in wasting that lovely heat as the oven cools down!

just makes for a slight variation on the theme!:o

Poppy - I'm almost salivating just thinking about the potato, onion and cheese bake! We used to make two each week, one with milk and the other would be with milk and an egg (both were delicious) and even people who profess not to like potatoes would come back for second helpings. That's one of the dishes I'm always asked to bring to parties & picnics as it tastes great hot or cold (but in winter we need it hot). I'm off to check if I've got any potatoes in the cupbord!

Justin - it does get easier. I started to do a challenge or two (they help to make it a bit of fun), checking out the OS boards etc and it is so much easier now than it was when we first started on our debt free journey. Silly things like home made soup or home made stew are so cheap to make and really filling!

    All the best, Cat.x
