Yup: less MoneySavingExpert, more MoneySpendingExpert :rotfl:
I would love to really appreciate more expensive things, but I can’t seem to stop myself hunting bargains out
....hence frequenting this forum/website
Mind you, I can see how the money could go....spotted an Antarctic Eclipse cruise the other day.....& the cheap cabin options were about £12k....per person :eek:Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
Don't...I caught 5 minutes of "Millionaires Holiday Club" on BBC2 yesterday. O. M. G. !!
Extravagant spending to make your eyes bleed!! (and the planet weep)
Now there's a portion of society that don't give two hoots about their carbon footprint. It's Yeti sized!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Well I'm holidaying right now in a place where food and drink is eye wateringly expensive. Luckily the meal package we have mitigates it somewhat, but it's still £12 for a pint of beer and the best part of £100 for pretty average wine in the restaurants.
On the plus side, the weather is quite nice...0 -

The RFU hospitality folk on Linkedin are always pushing the packages they have for sale for every game. I would have thought connecting with one of them would give you access to tickets for home games.
It's certainly part of my future plans rather than buying a debenture.
Thanks for the advice. Give your username I'm going to accept you probably know a lot more about HQ than I do!
Once upon a time, the fun was in scrounging around for tickets and using whatever contacts I had - point of principle for me that I wouldn't pay tout/secondary market prices. I had a good level of success overall (England/Ireland games were always the hardest to get) but would like a bit more certainty in future.0 -
I'd go tee-total on holiday at those prices!!! But I bet soft drinks are expensive too.
1 glass of tap water please!!?? (I bet you can't even drink the water either!!););)
Personally, I couldn't enjoy a holiday like that, as I'd just feel ripped off all the time. Especially for Beer. Beer's beer in most cases. Really good wine I can almost get though, but not mediocre ones.
I suppose though if you KNOW that's what it costs before you go, and you're prepared to pay those prices, then fair do's... it's your money!! Have a lovely time!!!

Our budget is currently determined by a calculation of how much steady after-tax. inflation adjusted income we can sustain from now until I am 90 whilst leaving £350K to cover large one-off expenditure, extended life expectancy, additional care costs and failure to meet the plan. When we retired in 2005 the target total income was £37500, which equates to about £50K at current prices. The budget is now £70K until I am 85 and £60K thereafter, the difference coming from an I/O lifetime mortgage which will probably be converted to full ER.
Spending up to budget requires a bit of effort. If necessary we will have the occasional expensive holiday and make gifts to family or charity. The aim is to avoid leaving a very large estate.0 -

I recall going on short (paid for) trip to Nevis in 1997. Worked out at £19 (each) to have breakfast on the villa terrace. Was even a plug socket for the toaster. Best part was going out on the resort catamaran. The ice ran out, Captain radioed in. The 6 crew tender (that ferried the clientele between Nevis and St Kitts) came out to restock us with a single cool box of ice.
PS. Memories are far important than the amount of money you spend in my book. I hated the Carribbean as got bitten to death in the evening!0 -

Nect weekend I will be paying the most I ever have for a meal, but I am pretty certain it will be delicious. My 60th birthday party at Northcote (Not sure I am allowed to metion that on this forum, but they do have some offers).0 -
We had a curry and a pint at the local Wetherspoons for our recent Pearl wedding anniversary, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It transported us back (just for an hour or so) to our younger days.Winner winner, Chicken dinner.0

Some of our most memorable meals have actually been just buying a "picnic" from M&S then sitting in various beautiful parks in the sunshine to eat them.
No waiting to be served, no waiting to pay the bill and lovely views. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0
