Link Financial Debt Collection

Hi,
I have just today received a Letter from Link Financial debt recovery, asking to get in touch about a debt which I apparently have. They say they have taken the debt from LC Asset S.a.r.l another company whom I have never dealt with. In the letter they state they have been trying to get in touch, yet this is the first time I have ever heard from them.
I have am currently not in any debt other than mortgage, so I am completely baffled by this letter. It doesn't even state what/where/when the debt is from. I have looked the company up and they seem like a legitimate company.
Could somebody have taken something out under my name? I don't know, I imagine it would be difficult to get the necessary documents to pull something like that off?
I don't know how to proceed, should I call them? E-mail them? Write to them?
Any help/assistance/advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi ritlo,
Write to Link, via Royal Mail, with a 'proveit' letter.
Also, check your three credit files with the three CRAs to make sure everything is accurate.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Link are a major player in the debt purchasing industry, it could be an old debt you had forgotton about, or it may be someone elses entirly.
Best responce is to send the "provit letter" available here :

This should get you all the information you require.
Don`t contact them in any other way, and certainly don`t ring them, everything should be in writing only at this stage.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I second Sourcrates and Willing2Learn, don't ring them. Chances are they won't take no for an answer and insist that it is YOUR debt and YOU need to pay. This is likely to be that the telephone operators you speak to are on commission for all debts collected and will be instructed that they are always right and the caller owes the money. (full stop no deviation from that line).May you find your sister soon Helli.
