Ok, stupid question.... but....

how do Postal Orders work? I've got some stuff on eBay, and someone wants to send me a Postal Order..... now I've heard of them, but have no clue how they work!
Can someone please enlighten me :o

  • well if you're sent an uncrossed postal order you can cash it at any post office... if it's crossed you need to bank it and is like a cheque. :)

Like Sar said its either cash if uncrossed or just pay it in if crossed. No charges either way the ones sending them get charged by the Post Office.

  • simple!...they go to post office, hand over the amount of cash they want a Postal Order for, (eg. a fiver), post office gives them a Postal Order to that amount, they post it to you, you pop into Post office with it, post office takes it from you and gives you the cash!
  • Is there any extra charge for me? Or do I just swap it at the PO for the equal amount of cash? And I'm guessing if I have to put it in the bank, it just clears like a normal cheque?

NO charge to you... the person buying it pays and stupidly high charge when they get it
Yep, exact right about the cheque. :)
