Mortgage Offer Received, is it likely to now be withdrawn

So both my husband and I were discharged from Bankruptcy in 2005 we have since gone on to manage our credit well, both have accounts with main stream banks and credit cards and mortgage etc.

Have just completed an application to renew our mortgage and borrow an additional 40k via a mortgage broker. At no point have we been asked about previous bankruptcies etc until our offer had been received and via the legal documents sent by the lenders solicitors.

The question asked is have you ever been subject to bankruptcy or bankruptcy proceedings, if so please supply discharge certificates. This maybe completely standard practice I am now just worried that our mortgage offer will now be revoked.

Anyone with a similar experience who can advise would be really appreciated.

If the broker did not ask you about previous bankruptcy then it is a massive oversight. I would of thought though that as responsible borrowers you should of informed the broker of your previous financial history.

It may or may not be an issue, depending on the lender and time scales.

I can think of a couple of lenders who instruct us to answer no to the bankruptcy question if it was registered more than six years ago.

Brokers are not normally stupid enough to try to hide this, as it is common knowledge the bankruptcy search is done by the solicitor a far way along in the process.

There's no way to second-guess this without the OP telling us who they are talking about.
