O/S Daily Monday 13th May 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunshine and blue sky this morning, looks like being a decent day.
DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, green beans, swede, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight will be either gammon, egg and chips or fish and chips - I haven't decided yet.
We were chilled yesterday. Back to work today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Looks like a lovely day out this morning, the washing is on the line and I'm off for a swim.
Nice day yesterday, went to a couple of shops, bought some light jeans and a couple of dresses for DD - she's struggling to find something suitable for work but these should do fine. Lunch out was lovely but a bit stressful trying to find somewhere to park, good job I have a small car!
Wishing you all a happy Monday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. What a beautiful start to the day.
I am up and at 'em early this morning as the decorator wants to start at 7.00. I don't mind the early start as I am always awake early. Sadly I usually slob around in my dressing gown for ages.
The girlies did us proud at the dancing competition over the weekend. More medals yesterday and middle DGD finally came away with a gold, a silver and a bronze. The youngest wasn't far behind with a silver and a bronze. They both did so well and were suitably pleased with themselves as they love their dancing.
Middle DGD is going to Whitby this morning on a school residential trip. It promises to be lovely weather for them. I wish I was going with them! Lots of activities are planned apparently.
I might do a bit of pottering in the garden whilst the decorating is underway. But there might be more sitting than gardening.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for all who need them. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
taff, is there any way you could ask your son to mind his father for a few hours of an evening so you can shake loose somewhere?
Both DS and DiL work shifts so their lives are quite hectic.
I wouldn't do anything at the moment, in the last days before mother passed DH didn't want to go to her room, when the Celebrant came he left, not sure how he is processing things. I'm his one constant, maybe see in a while but thank you for the suggestionIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
SO, things always seem more difficult in the period before a funeral, hopefully you will have a calmer time afterwards.
TA, congratulations to the dancers. We're heading up to your neck of the woods today, which looks like a good move as Carol on the BBC says it's going to be warmer up there than down here. Only a flying visit to have some double glazing panes replaced, we have to be back on Wednesday afternoon for Steve to have a CT scan.
Nelski, I'm sorry you haven't been feeling great. For some reason May is always a difficult month for me with my aches and pains and this year has been particularly bad. I hope yours improve a bit as things go on.
Laura and Brian came over and showed off their new car, it's a volvo and is full of safety features. We also went through the calendar so they could book Ziggy in to stay when they go away. Unfortunately they are going away with friends the week of our Ruby anniversary so any plans I was making have been kyboshed.
I made good progress with the new baby quilt - the top is pieced and I will try to quilt it when I get back from Yorkshire. This morning we'll be packing and then we'll go across to Chris and Crystal's on our way to Yorkshire. They got back from Greece in the early hours so we'll hear about their trip.0 -
Morning all
Looks like a nice bright day here its meant to be nice for the week I think :j
Off to work for me today and noisy Monday group. I have made some overnight oats to take so will see what they are like.
Not sure about dinner but there is lots in the fridge / freezer so plenty to choose from.
Will do a wash tonight and get it on the airer in the conservatory overnight.
We bought fresh local asparagus yesterday and fresh strawberries we had both for dinner last night and they were delsih !
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
More packing, I've done a fair amount of decluttering. Need to go to a neighbouring town at midday as they need to see originals of my qualifications, insurance, DBS and everything. Then next week, I've a meeting at the other agency, that's a good hour up the motorway. Think I could have done without all this right now but can't put life on hold. I'm getting a bit tired. OH will pack up his study at least. And do the lifting.
SO I can see exactly what you mean, that point of constancy is important.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Things are the same for me, I'm just plodding along.
I'm going to have a walk into town this morning and get the few things I need from the supermarket. I've managed to get the contents of one of the freezer down a bit and defrost it so at least I know what I've got in there.
If I feel up to it later I will give the entrance hall a coat of paint, there are quite a lot of scuffs on it where I catch it with my bags when I come in.
Other than that, I shall just generally potter about. At least the weather is getting a bit warmer, it certainly cheers me up
.
Gers I'm pleased to hear that your mum is doing ok and eating a bit now.
taff - it sounds like you have got the same skin side effects I had had. If it's any consolation mine is getting much better and is nearly back to normal, apart from the suntan!
SO take it easy, you are coping with such a lot on your own right now and trying to deal with your own grief.
Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning folks - thanks for posting everyone.
My morning had a lazy start followed by a frantic half hour. In my head I planned to get into JL first thing to return the ill-conceived TV recorder, go to the tip and then collect a parcel at Doddle. As I was in the shower I was hit by the thought of the window cleaner coming this morning - cue a short shower, quick dry, clothes thrown on and then a dash round DM's flat to clear the window ledges of 'stuff', pull out tables and move plants so that he can get easy access.
The upside is that the window cleaner is taking away a huge peace lily for his wife (DM's house cleaner) which is outgrowing DM's love! I'll be pleased to see it go too.
At teatime I'll be taking DM more fish and chips along with a portion for another patient. The food in hospital is mostly awful and usually cold and this other patient is miserable because of it. She was worried that she didn't have any money - told her to pay it forward when she could. That started a discussion about good deeds.
The sun is out, the rays are warm and I'm gagging to get outside.
I hope that everyone is doing well or getting help / better. Happy Monday to all.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc hugs to all those in need.
Chilly here this morning but nice and bright.
The fuel boat should go past this morning so we will get some coal.
I left a loaf proving overnight and baked it this morning, unfortunately it's not the correct shape for CHS so he won't eat it.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all.
I'm back ! The internet wandered off and took our landline with it last Thursday . We had Mr Happy
from the phone fixers here this morning, so I hope I haven't missed too much news on here. I didn't realise how much we used it until it went missing and thank goodness for mobile phones, so we could be in contact with Dad as he seems to be having more and more problems for us to solve. Anyway lots of recorded TV, films and books have been digested while we were offline :j.
This morning I have cleaned the bedroom carpet, the halogen oven, the kitchen worktops and filled the DW. This afternoon we will take some stuff over to the 'van ready for our hols which start on Sunday......... I can't wait !.
I will have a read back later but I hope all the poorlies are still on the road to recovery. Hugs to anyone who is in need.
Take care all.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
