  • It's new car day. Called up the insurance company yesterday, and they wanted £550 to change the car and add MrsNM to the policy. She has an automatic only licence, so couldnt drive the last car.

After picking myself off the floor, the lady on the call suggested a multicar policy. It would be £500 to add me, and my car to MrsNMs policy, but then I could get a £220 refund from cancelling my old policy, so £280 net. Credit to the lady from admiral for working all this out.

Payday was yesterday, but the £1700 CC hangover from holidays will come out on Monday. I moved £300 to my Monzo account, which had £95 left in from last month, and I'll try and have all of my non-DD spend come out of that.

I'm trying to go totally cashless with Monzo, it gives me much better visibility what I'm spending, and will hopefully keep me on track

If it all works out, a £200 isa payment might be possible. Significantly short of what was planned. I guess we can summarize from this that spending on CCs is a really bad idea most of the time.
  • When is a No Spend day not a no spend day? When all of the weekends expenses come out of your bank account on Tuesday?

Some large expenses, mainly the car @ £11720, insurance, the holiday credit card hang-over and power company all came out on Tuesday morning. So despite having an NSD on Monday and Tuesday, my bank account has been almost emptied.

It doesn't look like there will be any room for an ISA payment this month, so still stuck at £1250 out of a £15000 target for this Financial year :( (starting 6th April)

The new electric wondercar, is now part of the NM household, and It's currently plugged in at work. Although it was charged up at home over the BH weekend, the plan is to try and avoid charging it at home as much as possible.

Oh, and imo you get to keep your debt free badge as really the car debt is offset against savings so it could be cleared within a couple of days if required.

  • Been having fun with the magic electric car, perhaps a little too much, as I've driven it over 300 miles since I got it last week, without really going anywhere.

There is a new sport in not paying for the electricity I use though. A colleague at work has one, and she has only charged it at home twice in the last 4 months. I'm not sure I'll manage that well, but I have managed since last Sunday night, between the leisure centre, work and the supermarket.

One slight snag. Mrs NM gets a bit freaked out when driving it. She has driven it a couple of times no more than 2 miles. She doesn't really like driving, but needs a car to get to work. This could throw a significant spanner in the works for when I need to go to wales. Taking the electric car to wales is possible, but a monumental pain in the whatsits. I estimate it would take an extra 4 hours on top of the 5 1/2 it already takes

Niv - I sent you a PM, but I'm not sure it worked, but I have loads of invites spare.

It's not very free though. I always pop in and spend at last a fiver
  • Came into work this morning, and one of the guys I work with was talking about the new ipad he has bought, It has all the bells and whistles. and was about £1000!!!!! He told me it wasn't really that much though, because he has it on a payment plan. It's only £20 a month... for 4 years :eek:

Imagine paying for electronic gadgets over 4 years
  • On Friday, a man came and fitted a dedicated charging point to the outside of the house.

This would normally cost £860, but thanks to a £500 grant from the government, and a £240 contribution from Nissan, the total cost was just £80. This can charge the car from totally flat to full in 3 1/2 hours, or from 25% charge in about 2 1/2 hours. Much better than the 3 pin plug charger I had before. My work let me charge the car there, so I've only used it once, and the clever app tells me that this has cost me 81p in electricity.

Much more expensive has been the bribery I've needed to use to get Mrs NM to get over her anxiety when driving it. (If you drive the new car to the shopping centre, I'll get the coffee and cake) On this basis, its probably the same cost per mile as driving a double decker bus.
