It's got absolutely nothing to do with the State Pension Age.

Sorry, Ok, “normal” doesn’t mean anything to me.

    There’s a state pension age.
    An employer retirement age.
A particular pension plan retirement age.

    “Normal” isn’t a term I understand.

When you took out the policy, it would have had a retirement age attached. Which probably at the time wasnt 65 as it seems to be now. Was it changed when it was taken over?

Pretty sure the poster meant 'original' retirement age (i.e. the age to which the policy was originally written) - no other sensible interpretation.

    ... is the correct answer.

May also be referred to as "selected retirement age" in Phoenix.

"Normal Retirement Age" means either the second or third depending on the type of scheme. "Selected Retirement Age" is also used.

Just to emphasise the posts above, an MVR would normally not be applied at the selected retirement age. But it all depends on the terms of the plan at outset.

If the OP's wife hasn't retained the original policy documents she should ask Phoenix to send a copy.
