Question re rolling 12 month sick pay

Hi

I work for a company where I get 6 months full pay and then 6 months half pay. I had a long illness from last july to december all at full pay. I have now found out that I require emergency surgery in next few weeks which will have a lengthy recovery period. I have around 7 weeks full pay left then on to half pay.

Question is with a rolling 12 month sick pay. I will have exhausted my 7 week full pay and have moved on to half pay while I am recovering. During this period some of my previous sickness will have dropped of. Does this mean that it will be calculated on a daily basis and I will move back on to full pay during this one period of sickness.
Or will I remain on half pay and just any future absence I would have accumulated full pay again

Hope that makes sense just trying to work out my finances and how much will need to dip into my savings.

Thanks a lot

Unlikely as that would result in an endless cycle, as after your first 12 months of sickness it would be ‘reset’ in your version. So you could do 6 months half, 6 months full, be at 12 months and start the full again.

Is the sick pay definitely on 12 month rolling?

I know that trigger points with my employer run on 12 month rolling but sick pay is dealt with on, I think, 4 year period. I’ve expended my full pay period, I don’t expect to get full pay again.

If you were on full pay from July to December 2018, potential entitlement to full pay won't kick in again until December 2019. It probably won't even kick in then if you are still off sick.

12 months rolling sick pay generally means you need a clear 12 months of not being sick to qualify again.

Is this not explained in your employee handbook?

You need advice from your employer on how it is calculated. I've seen 12 months rolling calculated from the first day of sickness. That would make sense, otherwise the calculation would become very complex.

I am a civil servant, our sickness record works on a 12 month rolling basis but there is an additional rule of six months sick pay and sick months half pay in a rolling four year period, if this applies to you the all of your sickness after the 7 weeks full pay will be half pay.
