My previous thread on this subject was merged with shabby chic, but i have started it again because i feel it doesn't belong there.

I would like to see blogs about thrifty decor in general - modern and traditional style bought second hand and new from anywhere. Not just shabby chic. Putting my question on that one thread is like asking for a film recommendation on a horror movies thread. All you will get is horror, but what if you're also interested in comedy, romance, drama?

In addition, i wanted to know about homemaking as well as decor. That would include recipies, cleaning tips, home organisation, kids activities etc. Shabby chic isn't the place to find out about that.

Usually when i do a search i find it really helpful but on this occasion i couldn't find what i wanted (Blogs about thrifty decor in general and homemaking in general).

If i am looking for something specific i will search the old style board. I know how useful it is, and it has solved me many a dilemma. I've posted on shabby chic and i've been a flylady for months at a time in the past.

BUT, i am not asking a specific question like, "How to get sweat stains out of clothes?" or "do i have to undercoat this table first?" I want to read blogs for the reading's sake.

Reading blogs is not about getting answers to specific questions. It's like settling in with a magazine. You wouldn't read cardmaking & papercraft because you need to know how to do quilling because it might not have it in. You read because it gives you inspiration. Stories and ideas.

It's not one specific thing about a specific question i want answers to. I want to know about thrifty decor and homemaking blogs so that i can settle in with a nice cuppa and a biscuit or two and read their stories about the bloggers homes and how they decorate them and manage them.

I don't want to have to wade through pages and pages of irrelavent posts because they "might" contain links to blogs that may or may not be applicable.

If anyone can link me to a thread on here which is a compilation of UK blogs about thrifty decor and homemaking in general i would be very grateful. Otherwise a link to any relevant blogs that you know of would be fab!

    My original ask:
I am looking for blogs about decor and homeaking on a budget. I have happened across a few, but they are all American and while they are a good read they don't seem to be as relevant to me.

If anyone writes or knows of any UK budget decor and home making blogs i would be very grateful to know them.

I posted in here because this is the home of the shabby chic thread and the flyladies thread, so i thought those ladies might be able to assist. :)

    Many thanks. x

We are not allowed to post links to our own blogs, refer people to our homepage in our profile or ask others to post a link to our blog for us. This is against MSE rules about "self advertising." Please see the following link: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/forum-faqs#company

Instead i am just making a mental note to check the homepage of all those who post here, since you may be bloggers yourselves.

So far i've had these recommendations (none of them are mine)

  • I agree. Sometimes it is useful to have posts merged but in this instance it really isn't helpful.

  • I am very interested in the same sort of tac you're asking about.

Sorry I can't be of any help but as the thread is about to disappear off the front page I thought I would help it up again.

looking forward to finding some new blogs!

    Thank OP :)

    brilliant, thank you :)

I'm just wondering whether people are allowed to post their own blogs? Would it be allowed to PM one of us so we can post the link to the blog instead of running the risk of getting into trouble for posting/advertising your own blog?

    Just a thought x
  • Oooh, i don't know! I didn't realise it could be a problem to post blog links. I will ask the mod i was chatting with about this earlier. He will know, i am sure. Thanks! x

  • Here is one I enjoy reading http://down---to---earth.blogspot.com/ it is about homemaking.

The I find new blogs to read is by either viewing the lists of blogs that the blog writers themselves read or clicking on their followers as it will usually be similar interests.

    Hope that helps.

    I like this blog http://homespunliving.blogspot.com/
Although it's not British (it's American), it does feel a bit like browsing through a magazine to me. I especially like seeing her home decor ( a lot of what she has is renovated / vintage items from the equivalent of car boots etc - have a look at the 'corners of my home' section for posts with an emphasis on home decor). There is als a fair bit of baking /cooking, growing veg, knitting, sewing. It's all very stylish and there's a big archive to browse through (from 2005).
