Gym membership Direct Debit cancellation

Options
I joined a gym at the end of January with a contract paying monthly by direct debit. The gym suddenly closed unexpectedly on 21 March and as my DD was due to come out at the end of March, when the gym had still not reopened I decided to cancel my DD.

The gym has since reopened but I have not used their facilities since it shut and have no intention of rejoining.

However yesterday I got an email from the Debit Finance company saying they were unable to take payment for May’s membership. I have emailed them stating as above and that by the gym closing unexpectedly and without notice they are in breach of the contract.
Am I within my rights to not pay any more money for this membership?

Thanks
