'Expired' active DD's

Options
I have a Tesco account which ive got DD's going to a PO savings account in order to get the 3% interest. I had problems trying to deposit money into PO savings via debit card so opted for one off DD. However this failed (twice). My regular one was due to go out today & wasnt taken. When ive looked at my DD list on Tesco the mandate has disappeared. Phoned Tesco who informed me the reason is that it expired. But on my PO account i have serveralDD's which are still active, i rang PO who are now looking into it (although the foreign call centre was useless when i rang about 1st failure & just blamed Tesco).

Question is, how did this happen & who's fault is it? As i just know both sides are going to fob me off & blame each other. And the result being Tesco not paying me my interest.

Although i have just managed to open a ne PO account & get DD's set up in time for interest (hopefully)

That doesnt explain anything as they're not unused. They are active. The PO is actively trying to take them & Tesco is blocking them.Tesco told me it had expired a couple of weeks ago, last one was taken 15th April.

Either the DDs have expired or they are active. They can't be both.

If you are saying that Tesco said they cancelled them even though they had not been dormant for 13 months, you need to formally complain to Tesco.

Thats the confusion. Tesco told me it had expired but its still active on my PO account the DD isnt even 13 months old, think it was only originally set up 7 or 8 months ago.

Direct debits must be to different companies so your one off DD may have failed to work because it was a second one to the same company.

Maybe this caused confusion with the original DD.

Same company DDs qualify with Tesco Bank.

I'd try re-linking your Tesco account to your PO saver by creating a new DD mandate - go through the process to change your nominated account but put in your existing Tesco account details. It's sounds quite likely that Tesco have cancelled your DD mandate for whatever reason, but doing so won't automatically change anything on your PO savings account, hence why it still appears "active" even though the link has been severed.

I'm not sure exactly whose fault it is, but if you make a formal complaint to Tesco under the Direct Debit Guarantee, then you might have some recourse. If they have failed to honour a DD that has been properly set up and is active (sounds like it should still be if the last payment was only taken a few weeks ago) then they should cover any financial losses you have - I'm not sure if not being paid interest will count as a loss, but it might be worth a shot.

Ive actually just opened a new PO account. I think whats happened was my 1st DD i set up monthly until 15th April (as was expecting them to reduce 3% that month). Then added other ones later. But as they accept one off DD's the mandate shouldve been open dated and only date limited at the PO's end and on Tesco's. So i think its the PO fault.. I dont see why loss of interest isnt financial loss, but hoping to avoid it.

This account is getting switched to m&s after June anyway. Looks like i might need to cancel & reset up PO DD's with my other accounts (although i think i may have enough to avoid using PO altogether )

I have 4 PO savers & one off DD's is the only way to deposit money as debit cards keep having problems

There are 2 ways DD's can expire, inactivity (13 months) or Final DD.

If the Service User sent the DD taken on 15th April with Transaction Code 19 (final DD) then this would have expired the DD. Does your statement show DD additional narrative or failing that ask Tesco what the transaction code was for the 15th April debit .
