Hello my lovelies
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding the selling of computer software online?
I dont know anything about domain names, hosting, etc.
A real newbie to this and would welcome any useful pointers, please.

When you say " Making Money - selling downloads" Most downloads are illegal (although there are some legitimate downloads), although I doubt there are any legitimate uses to sell downloaded software even when you pay for it.

sorry i think you misunderstood.
i am referring to software that i have written myself.0 -
you've asked quite a lot there, theres a lot involved in doing what you ask properly...
but the simplest way it could go would be:
set up a domain name with someone like https://www.nameroute.com who will give you 10mb of storage free. use a template website from somewhere like https://www.freelayouts.com then use an ftp (puts the site online) such as filezilla.
on your site you would ave a buy it now button linked up with your paypal account where they would pay. you recieve the payment and send the product to their paypal email address.
anything more automated...i.e is more complicated or costs more of your profit. see: https://www.payloadz.com and https://www.shareit.com/0 -
many thanks griogair, that i think is exactly the information i needed to know.
that has given me a plenty to look into and think about.
many thanks again:beer:0 -
Had you considered using clickbank?
http://www.clickbank.com/index.html
Basically they have a huge number of affiliates who promote/sell your product in return for a small percentage.
Depending on the product this could be the best way to go as it involves the minimum fuss for you and gets you a lot of exposure.0 -
As it will be your own stuff you are offering, it may be worth your while looking at learning how to go about internet marketing yourself. I did the Thirty Day Challenge www.thirtydaychallenge.com earlier in the year and all their information is free. This could give you the basics of getting yourself noticed online. Spanglefish offer a free (but has some advertising on it) web site and they recommend a friend of theirs who does a free basic sales package to put on your site. Combine the two and with a bit of promotion and you could see your way on to earning some money at almost no cost to yourself.Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding the selling of computer software online?

I'll echo what's been said about Spanglefish - we upgraded to Gold (ad free, or you can sell your own ad space for £25 pa), and the support we've had getting started is unbelievable from Spanglefish and the forums. We too needed a web presence for business purposes and I'm chuffed to bits (OH is a fork truck trainer).
Well worth looking at, they've saved us a fortune in web design costs, etc. :T
Good luck with your venture!

Thre are other options, my webhost costs 29.99 a year and they have 24/7 tech support, as part of the package you get a "cpanel" contol panel and from there you can use an online application called fantastico to install FREE shopping cart software that supports digital downloads, here is one I've set up for free for a local shop near me, please bear in mind the following!
THE ITEMS IN THIS SHOP ARE NOT LIVE, ITS A TEST SHOP.
in fact I'll just PM you the link so people dont accidentally buy 32,000 pairs of boxer shorts
Basically if you can write software thn I feel pretty sure you can set an online shop up
and the total cost ......... £29.99 for the hosting and domain name
