Bankruptcy 10 months in...

10 months into bankruptcy and no issues with OR which was main concern going into this. Family and friends supportive in the main. Experienced a little ignorance and snide comments from people I couldn't care less about, but on the whole happy/relieved with how it's gone. Particularly for my wife who was struggling with the issues that led us here.
Main problem we're having is with renting properties. Took us a while to actually get somewhere that would let to us. Some of the big places gave a NO straight out of the gate. When we did find somewhere it's a case of 6 months rent up front plus a guarantor then same again. Is this common? Would appreciate anyone sharing their experiences renting post bankruptcy...

And when I say 6 months I mean we are in a constant loop of paying 6 months for a 6 month agreement.0

I understand it's quite common, generally anyone who doesn't fit the credit score system gets either a 'no' or if your lucky an offer of 6 months down/guarantor.
It's just the way it is renting (for many people not just brs) & why I suggest sorting your housing before you go BR (not always possibly I do understand)
But hey ho! Life goes on & sounds like it's going better then before.
Make sure you do the credit file clean up once discharged & should be able to get a builder credit card 6months ish after too, all helps get that credit file looking healthier & help ease future rental angst

If you can't get a guarantor or someone to lend you 6 months upfront (landlord usually happy to accept this if you have a bad credit record - it's the same for someone who's self-employed) then I suggest you search for a private landlord who doesn't do credit checks. I think it's very common for people to have issues like this post-BR.0
