Help to Buy Scheme - active DMP

Hi,
Need some advice and hoping someone here can help... My husband and I are looking to purchase our first home together, we currently live in rented accommodation.
I have a DMP which includes a debt for repossession. :-( over 10 years ago, which i am still paying off, and to be honest, its going to take me a fair while to pay off completely.
I am guessing my chances are slim to none aren't they? What can i do?
Bit of background:
I joint owned a property with an Ex in 2005. Long story short, he fleeced me, i had a newborn and was advised to move into rented as he refused to leave the property, and i couldn't afford to pay the mortgage on maternity pay. Basically he stopped paying the mortgage about 6 months after, i didn't know until i had a call from the mortgage company that a repossession order had been issued. I tried selling but was advised by CA and solicitor to just let it go. Ex then refused to pay anything and threatened to go bankrupt. I had a child to support and was being hassled from everywhere so only option was a DMP, i wasn't allowed an IVA as Northern Rock refused, so have been left to pay everything on my own, which i have done for the past 10 years.
I'm guessing it doesn't really matter how it happened, it has and that's all they will see wont they?
