I use AdBlock, which is free (though I did make a donation) and very effective.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Facebook scared me the most at just how much none-facebook activity it delves into. Recently I'd looked at a few Youtube videos on my TV linked to my Youtube account about the Renault Zoe, did a few searches on Bing/Google about it as well. Facebook feed now has multiple ads from Renault for the Zoe.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Just standard targeted advertising, I'm pretty sure on most platforms you can opt between 'targeted advertising' or 'generic advertising'. Sadly if there were no ads most websites that don't sell something wouldn't exist.Know what you don't0

Try deleting your cookies after every website you visit...be warned any stored usernames or passwords will also be deleted.
Or just ignore the adverts."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Try deleting all your browsing history - cookies, data, history, passwords, saved data, everything - then close your browser and from that point on only use inprivate or incognito or whatever your browser calls private browsing and that should stop them targeting you with ads based on what you've searched for or based on websites you visit.0

There's probably quite a few people who wonder why they get bombarded with adverts about tinfoil :rotfl:0

This all reminds me of this rant (funny)

Presumably you use a search engine such as Google. They keep a record of your searches.
It's a bit like using a Tesco Clubcard at Tesco. When you do so you furnish Tesco with details about the items you purchase.
They don't have to search through your cupboards at home to know you like crisps and biscuits; you tell them that every time you flash your Clubcard.
Thats what you think. You know that rustling noise downsairs at 2am you thought was the cat .....0 -
My DH was searching for holidays using an "in private/incognito" tab in google, thinking it would stop this sort of thing. I STILL had the firm he'd looked at on line pop up in my Facebook timeline!!! How is he supposed to arrange that "surprise" holiday!!! (this one wasn't to be fair....but he might have been)How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

Wasn't there an MP that complained about ads for ladyboys or something similar, not realising they were targeted ads based on his browsing history?
Edit: close, Arab dating
