Don't forget to allow for service charges too, if the flat is in a block.

If you rent then you don't pay service charges the owner does, you just pay the monthly rental fee.

I rent in Southampton too, where abouts are you looking at? 1 or 2 bed flat?

Dont worry :) it was something I remembered talk of from previously living in a flat, but then we rented from my ex's family and we (or should I say ex) did the maintainence!

Not far from us then, we're just off the avenue. Remember the agents fee if you rent off an estate agent. Some of them charge this fee every time you renew your contract which I think is a right rip off at £200 odd a time. Luckily we just had to pay it once!
