Cholesterol check

I'm 51. I remember a check up at my docs a few years ago where my cholesterol was slightly raised but the gp didn't seem too concerned. A few years on from that I wonder what my levels are now. I have a blood pressure monitor to keep an eye on that but I have read that home cholesterol kits aren't that accurate. Is there a decent online service who can give me a not too expensive blood test with accurate cholesterol levels?
I am having a problem getting past my local practice's receptionist who wont book me in for a test without something being wrong with me

Have you had a NHS Health Check? Is this what you were referring to when you had your cholesterol checked a few years ago.

If you've not had a NHS Health Check and you are in England, then these are available to everyone aged 50 and over, they are done every 5 years.

In my area, Lloyds pharmacies will do a cholesterol and blood pressure test. You pay but I cannot recall how much.. results given on the spot.

Hope you manage to get your cholesterol test done. But can i just say that it is absolutely nothing to do with your GP`s receptionist why you want to see your GP and i cannot imagine any GP refusing you a cholesterol test.

Yes I had a check up because I passed 40 (actually I was about 42). I called my doctors and was told they have stopped these routine checks now unless there is a problem. I was hoping to learn of any issues before they actually became a problem but there you go.
Looks like I will have to book a test at Lloyd's as suggested by another poster for £9.99
