A colleague in a previous job was signed off sick with anxiety and interviewed for and was offered another job. It was with the NHS as well who usually check absences for the last 3 years and question any long ones. I guess it comes down to the company interviewing you and whether or not they think it's an issue.

I do remember as soon as she got the conditional offer for her new job and they asked to contact her current employer for a reference she handed in her notice. I can't imagine any employer taking kindly to being contacted for a reference for someone who's sick.

There was a thread on here a few months ago for someone who was looking for advice after they were off sick, found a new job, handed in their notice and was dismissed. I can't find the thread but that was the gist. I think this is definitely a risk.

If you do not like the job, the people etc you should resign, not go on sick leave.

Nothing wrong with expecting people to “man up” Too many sensitive snowflakes around nowadays.
You work colleagues aren’t there to act as a shoulder to cry on or a 10 min chat over a cup of tea — they are there to work.
As above, a day or three is perfectly acceptable, anything more is taking the mickey (unless there are unusual circumstances)

Bit harsh, losing a close family member can be devastating for some regardless of age. (the snowflake bit).
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
