Hair thinning?

Not sure where to put this.

The last couple months I've noticed some light thinning of hair on my temples (more so one of them), and possibly light recession on the corners (hairline slightly more 'diagonal and deeper', possibly....

I actually have, and currently still do, i think, thick, full head of hair. I'm , in mid 30s, my brother, dad and uncles all still have good heads of hair as do the women in family. I'm healthy, exercise, don't smoke, rarely drink. Diet could be a little better, nothing to write home about .

So, not sure what is causing it or if I'm imagining it, but is causing anxiety (I'm pretty slim build, not tall, so it's affecting my confidence, IF what I'm thinking is correct). I just wouldn't suit a bald or cropped look with my physique. And don't want to either.

Plus I get dry, itchy scalp sometimes so have prescribed stuff for that, so dont want a red itchy area at the back neckline exposed if I go bald, making me even more self conscious.

So, I'm going to wait til my next haircut to assess what's happening.

If it just the little area around temples, I'm thinking transplant or wait? It costs thousands. Anyone done it (specifically that area?)

Or regaine? But may irritate my skin... And 30 quid a month forever is...ouch.

Any other suggestions?

Thinking play calm and wait a few months to assess what, if anything, is happening.

  • You may be using too much product. Try only washing your hair once or twice a week with plain soap or baby shampoo. Less is more.
  • Because of dry scalp conditions, I need to wash once a day. I don't use a lot of of the prescribed shampoo, and I use coconut oil to moisturise.

As far as I know, washing is not the issue.

Genetics, smoking, poor health, stress, over heating / straightening are though

By continually washing your hair, you are stripping out all the natural oils. Try not washing it more than twice a week for a couple of months. Shampoo is designed to remove oil, which is what dirt clings to, therefore drying out the hair. This is why there is so much reliance on conditioner. Unless you work in a dirty environment you don't need to wash your hair more than twice a week - even less would be better.

Hopefully you can find a change to your routine and/or lifestyle that will resolve the issue. Otherwise acceptance would be your best course. Regaine only has a limited effect, and be careful not to fall victim to the sharks who play on one’s vulnerability about their hair loss.
  • Maybe, you should change your nutrition a little bit. Add more fats and vitamins.
And as I know, stress can also effect on hair quality. So, you can try to reduce it, if you have one.
  • I did mention I moisturise with coconut oil.

Washing twice a week is not an option. I have dry scalp eczema. It will lead to dandruff and itchy scalp if I didn't.

    I really don't think it's that.

And I was being critical with my diet, its better than most, and I exercise regularly.

    Perhaps it's stress.

As I said, genetics on my favour.

Maybe I'm imagining the temple stuff. I'll see after next haircut

If it proves thinning, I'll see gp to look at options because I still otherwise have a full, good thick head of hair.

Whether I need a tiny area transplanted or regaine, hopefully solution works and not expensive and gets me less self conscious.
