Anti Christmas Holiday - any thoughts

Hi all,

I feel that Xmas is more useless and depressing every year. I loathe it. Now most of the relatives I loved have passed on, I just don't want to get involved with what I see as a hypocritical consumerist farrago, where I drink too much and feel unhappy.

Sorry to sound such a miseryguts - I'm not normally, it's just Christmas!!

I have just been through a horribly stressful situation. So I need to get away.

Have you any suggestions for an awaybreak where I will minimise or avoid altogether the holiday season?

There is a BBC article about a yorkshire hotel which was doing "Anti Xmas holidays" but this is dated from 2001 and I don't know if this was just a one-off stunt

Also, as you may have guessed from my username, I would prefer to keep my carbon footprint low, so I can't jet off to China or India.
