Hi
I have received a letter regarding and old credit account. The account was taken out around 2004 and I have not made any payments since at least 2009. There was a small amount outstanding but it is now apparently at over £3000.
"We refer to your account and are writing to advise that our client, Hoist Finance UK Ltd, have instructed BPO Collections to recover the outstanding amount of £3084 owed to them. This account was originally opened with Welcome Finance and Hoist Finance have passed the account to BPO to collect the full outstanding balance and request that all payments be made directly to BPO.
PLEASE PAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Whilst this account remains unpaid, details may be registered with on or more credit reference agencies, and you will leave us with no alternative other than to continue with collections activity, which may include further emails, calls, letters and texts. Failure to settle you account or enter into a repayment plan may also affect chances of obtaining credit in the future."
Is this classed as statute barred? If so is there a standard letter I can send to ensure they stop chasing me? Also do I need to send this via Royal Mail or is email acceptable.
I am almost in a position where I have a good credit rating for the first time in many years and this could put me right back to square one.
Many Thanks
