Payroll Glitch

Hi,
First of all, apologies if this is the incorrect part of the forum for this thread - please feel free to point me in the right direction!
So, our payroll provider for a company of 300+ employees experienced a "glitch", meaning none of us have been paid today. All HR is able to tell us is that the payments have been processed and we should receive them "at some point today".
Does anyone have any experience of this or know how likely it will take? Just trying to plan/account for rent/bills, etc.
Thanks in advance!

Legally speaking they have to pay you on the date that it says they will. This typically doesnt include times but from the little i know of banks they seem to have a cut off for payments at around 5-7pm. Id say if you havent had it by then youre not getting it today.
Depending on the issue it could be paid in the next few seconds or it might not be paid at all. Bear in mind theres very little benefit to a company who doesn't pay its staff, they tend to not show up to work and mnay problems start to unravel.
My employer paid us late once due to an error and whilst i dont (sorry cant remember) think they where legally obliged to, they offered to pay any incurred costs so things like late payment charges and overdraft fees providing you could prove the lack of payment was the reason for any costs. Obviously they have no ability to control credit reports so these can be effected.0 -
Thanks for the response!
It seems about half of us have been paid now, the other half haven't (myself included).
Not sure why? Could it be due to banking providers? I bank with HSBC if that info is of any use!0 -
Could be banks, could be doing payments in batches if its anything to do with the error.
Some banks will tell you it can take 2 hours for payments to get processed ive never found that to be the case but im guessing they say it for a reason.0 -
I have mine now, thankfully. Only one person remaining and they bank with Co-Op, so they'll probably get theirs next year...0

As someone who does payroll multiple companies and people, I would confirm that "payroll glitches" can happen frequently and can be caused by anything from the originating bank having software/security issues, right down to the payroll clerk/authorised signatory forgetting to press send on the payment.
If the original payment was BACS, this is a three day payment and is a file imported from their payroll software. if this has failed for whatever reason, they are probably having to do manual same day payments, and doing them in batches given that there are 300+ people.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -

I generally get paid just before midnight the day before our official pay day so I'm not sure how accurate this is.0 -

So all good then. You were paid on the day they said they would pay you, just not as early as usual.0 -
If you don't have a month buffer in the budget It is never a good idea to align outgoing commitments close to pay day.
Things can and do go wrong in the banking system as well as employers just getting it wrong.
Easter&Xmas should it fall around pay day and something go wrong it could be 5 days late.
even though rare the inconvenience of it happening once make it worth while having a gap of around a week from pay day to pay outs if not all at least enough to get by a cash flow in delay.0
