I want a hedge trimmer

Options
Hi
I want an electric hedge trimmer :T Can anyone recommend a good one? Ideally I'd like lightweight one, longish blade, good motor, for a good price

I don't want a cordless one as my current one is cordless and it isn't powerful enough to cut through the hedges!
thanks

Just bought my dad one for his birthday. He'd chosen a "Powerbase" one from Homebase at £17.99, but I insisted he got a branded name one due to availability of spare parts. Finished up buying a Flymo unit from B & Q at £29.99. Seems a good buy so far.

By the way, saw in Argos today that they have a triple set consisting of lawnmower, strimmer, and hedge trimmer. Normally retails (blimey, sound like Del-Boy!) at £59.99 but they're on offer at the moment at £49.99. You'll have to make your own mind up about the likely quality though!

Aldi had some in recently, at £19.99 I think. Your local store might still have them. My experience of the Aldi 'Special Buys' is that they are excellent value.

    What's your budget scoobie?

If you're wanting a powerful one with a longish blade , then my husband got the Bosch ASH 7000 the other day and he says it's very good. It's got a 70cm long blade , 34mm wide blade spacing and a 650 watt motor. He got it on 10% day at Homebase so he got it for about £90. Not that cheap , but if you need one with a long blade and a powerful motor like we do as we have a few hedges and a very high thick one , it could be worth it in the long run. Seems a good price at Homebase as it's £139.99 HERE

500w is good for that price, but 14mm cutting width is too small for me , as I have thicker branches to get through

My experience is cheap ones don't work well, motor cuts out, stalls etc in dense work. Thats a good specification , I'm not suprised he's happy with it, I may look out for that one. thanks

I got one of these from Homebase after I read the Which? review of hedgetrimmers which slated the cheaper models and really rated Bosch. It was £99 at Homebase, I couldn't find it cheaper on the web which is a first

I didn't know that about the Which review. We went in with the intention of buying one of the Black & Deckers with the extended reach , but saw the Bosch and thought it seemed a lot sturdier , much better quality and hopefully should last longer.

Hope you like it after i've recommended it icon7.gif

I know you don't like cheap ones, in fact I bought one for £20 from B+Q which had to be taken back, because it simply would not cut the hedge!
Glutton for punishment, I bought the netto hedge trimmer and it was excellent! Again you can take it back if you dont like it. They are in store at the moment.
    £14.99, cuts through anything!
