26.04.19 This morning i received a letter out of the Blue. I Had a CSA Letter stating my X wife wanted them to Chase over £1000 Pounds I still owed . As you can imagine after 11 years of thinking all was sorted. I am now so stressed. I am sure That 11 years ago i got a letter stating that After I Had Made over Payments For my Daughter all was cleared. After 3 moves a time of Homelessness & Now , The Last 4 years on full disabilty due to Diabetes, & Complications arising from this. As all proof of wages and of course stupidly not keeping letters, Can I do anything to stop the x Getting even more out of me that I Thought I had cleared.
Thank you in advance a stressed & worried citizen. 1 Thing I do remember is as I Had a direct debit set up with my Bank I asked if i could close it The bank said No. But yet the DD is Closed. Sorry about size I am Partially Sighted.

1. Do you still owe your ex-wife £1000 in child maintenance?
2. How old is the child?0 -
If the Direct Debit was closed, but you didn't close it, it is likely that the bank closed the direct debit due to it not having been used for a period. some banks close Direct Debit instructions two years after the last payment has been taken, if the customer does not cancel the Direct Debit themselves.
I would suggest you call the CMS and ask when did they last try to take a payment by direct debit, and did they try to contact you when if the direct debit was not paid.
I suspect that you owed this money from 11 years ago, but that the CMS has not been able to contact you until now to chase this. I doubt that they will agree that you should not pay this money if it should have been paid 11 years ago, but you could try arguing that as your child is now grown up, your ex-wife does not need the money to support the child. If they insist you pay, you should explain your current financial circumstances and try to negotiate a repayment plan that you can afford. The comments I post are my personal opinion. Hi 1500 Pound to be exact, & so the letter states i still owe it.
I Had two children Both now 28.& Over. as stated heard nothing for 11 years. then this.
its not clear who i owe it for. But i do remember Making overpayment.0 -
So you agree with the CSA when they say you owe £1500? So all that remains now is for you to pay them what you owe them.0

I dont agree with CSA I am sure they stopped taking due to overPayment..Old adage keep a copy of everything, But sadly not my case. Not hidden from CSA.0

Ask the CSA/CMS to prove that you owe this money. Ask to see their records. You might have to take it on trust that they are correct, if you can't prove that they are not, but if you get them to share their evidence you might find proof that you do not owe the money (or you don't owe quite as much).
Then start negotiating. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
