NI Credits - question

Male, born July 1950. Took early retirement and work pension April 2008. Deferred state pension for a couple of years 'till August 2017.
Out of curiosity I have just had a look at my 'Pension Forecast' which obviously shows that I am in receipt. Further curiosity led me to check my NI record.
The NI record shows that I made full contributions up to 2007/08. There are then a couple of years with incomplete records. But from 2010/11 all years are shown as 'Full' with NI Credits. I have never claimed any credits or benefits.
Just curious as to why I get all these NI Credits? Is it just an administrative device? I can find no explanation that fits my circumstances.
Cheers all

As a man you would have received credits for the years where a woman of your age would have been in receipt of SP.0

Good heavens. So a sort of reverse gender discrimination.
Hadn't heard about that one.
Thanks Molerat, makes sense.0
