Eh?
2 costing normally £1.98 for £3 would save 96p.
3 for £5 would save 94p.
Almost. It is very subtle.
1 pack = £1.98
2 packs = £3 (normally £3.96) Save 96p
3 packs = £5 (normally £5.94) Save 94p
but
3 packs = 2 packs + 1 pack = £3 + £1.98 = £4.98
So the 3 packs for £5 actually costs you 2p more.0 -
Which is all why so much food gets wasted - people get stuff that they don't need 'because it's so cheap!'
They like you to think so. Single items are sold at inflated prices. BOGOFS are sold at the proper price.Somerfields is always offering two bags of satsumas for the price of one (or something similar) but if I buy two, one lot will go off before I get round to it eating them, so where's the saving in that?
None for you - they get to sell more stock. Customers buying food and throwing it away is good for the supermarkets.0 -
My sister has just sent an email to ASDA to find out just why one item costs 98p or she can buy two for 2 quid!
Do they really think the general populace are THAT thick??
ASDA do seem to have a problem with this on certain items from time to time. I suspect that this is due to their habit of printing offers on the packaging itself.
My latest example is their 400g boxes of frozen sliced roast beef. On the box it says "3 for £5". The individual price has now been reduced to £1.30. £5 divided by 3 is £1.66. On searching around, this appears to be the only item in the freezer section with this offer. Therefore, the offer on the box has probably been superceded by the new lower unit price. I am certain that, if you bought 3 boxes, you would be charged 3 x £1.30 = £3.90, not £5. And I wouldn't want ASDA to keep the unit price at £1.66 or higher, just because of what it says on the box.
It all goes to show that you really do have to keep your wits about you when shopping. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Ah yes I see. Well I don't think thats meant to defraud (for 2p!). It's just a clever way of doing it.0 -

I think it is as Stephen Leak says. Asda get confused by their own offers. The 2 for £3 offer was stickers on the products, but the 3 for £5 offer was on the shelf. I bought two packs and was charged £3 so the stickers were correct. Didn't buy 3 packs so not sure if the till would have charged £4.98 or £5. But yes, you do need your wits about you!0 -

I can just hear the court summing up this case:

And then throw it away a week later...

Thats the problem with half of the offers, theyre on food that will only last a few days but because its offer you buy the 2 for X amount and because you wouldnt normally eat 2 of them the other 1 goes thrown in the bin,
we dont tend to buy stuff if its on offer unless we would be able to eat itNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
By the time I got the the bottom of this I forgot what the question was. Started with Asda and ended with school lessons. So I went back up and had a look.
The answer, sadly, would seem to be yes.0
