Giving in notice during holiday time

  • Yes I have told them I have leaving this September.

I could transfer to another store but honestly, I’m so tired of retail I would rather clean!

Will be off to uni soon and so need to quit my part-time retail job. So, I have been booked in for holiday on some dates in September. My contract states 1 week notice so could I give in my notice 1 week before my 'holiday' dates and then leave?
Some employers do not allow leave during the notice period. Others insist that all leave is taken before the last day. If its a large employer you should have access to a staff handbook which will say.

    Check your contract.

What sort of contract is it?

Contract can override the statutory requirements on notice for holidays.

If the contract says you cannot take holiday during notice then you may need to cancel the holiday if asked.

Some contracts have clauses that override the holiday notice so the employer can make you use holiday during notice.

    next is the pay

Check you have accrued enough holiday to get paid the week.
Check the contract for a clause to allow them to recover the holiday pay.

notice starts the day after it is given(some places will accept it starts same day)

You could give notice the week before the holiday to finish as long as you don't get asked to use holiday during notice you should get the same pay.
