Anyone else in a job they hate and making them really depressed?

Options
Or is it just me??

How do you get up in the morning? How do you motivate yourself. I’m in a job I can’t stand but it’s my fault I find myself in this position. Depression and anxiety have held my confidence back and I keep selecting jobs in the same sector! (Education!) Bizarrely, I chose to come back to this role. I left after a short time to get another job within the sector and it wasn’t anything as advertised - so 4 weeks later and couple of conversations (AND AVOID VEING UNEMPLOYED!) I went back! But it’s dire and I feel “trapped”

I understand it’s 12 weeks (working!) between now and September! (In my mind - I “owe” them that much - before looking!!)

I’m just desperate, I’ve got loads of food stuff in my life away from work, but the thought of going to work is spoiling that!!

Sorry just needed to rant! It’s my own fault, confidence has held me back from moving up the ladder. I’ve joined the gym to help boost that aspect of life - I just need some “go to” tools as I wake up or am driving to work to lift my mood and actually desire to work!

Thanks for reading. It’s all very confusing I appreciate but I left, went to hell and have returned to a lesser evil. 2 months in and im done! But I talked so positively to get a return I don’t know how to approach getting out and when!!!

I was going to say join the gym.

There is not a lot you can do if you hate it that much. I once had a job I used to dread, I went and got another. Little tweaks are not going to make it bearable.

If you have managed to get a job, a new job and be taken back by the old job in a short period of time, you must be fairly confident. One of the reasons I went self employed was because I am useless in interviews and would never have moved up beyond a certain level unless it was handed to me on a plate.

Give it a month and then start applying, by the time you get an interview, and the job and work your notice, you will have done until the 6 week holidays more or less.

I used to count down the actual days - so rather than say 30 days in a month, it would only be 22 days (monday to friday), you then have bank holidays, holidays etc so it comes down to maybe 20 days. That is literally all I can suggest.

I appreciate the time to read and reply. That’s exactly what I try, Day at a time, but more importantly “it’s not forever”

It’s hard, only ever really loathed a job like this once or twice before. Only positive it’s better than my last job, which was awful and had a commute of nearly 2 hours a day. I’m down to 15 mins, which is a reason I came back.

Unfortunately, when I left uni I had piled on 4/5 stone and have lost a decade a opportunities that my confidence and anxiety wouldn’t let me do! I didn’t turn up to a PGCE interview as I’d worked myself up so much. I’ve come a little way since then and the gym will hopefully help. It’s getting through the “desperate” feelings I get.

I was thinking get to Sept, start back and then look to get out by Xmas. It would be very difficult prior as I say they have taken me back, like me/my work (i act very well!!!) and have saved me from unemployment.

On the plus, it’s 23 days until May half term! Haha!

    Thanks again.

At this point I'm thinking that your expectations of work are simply too high. Few people love going to work, but mostly everyone just gets on with it. A lot is about attitude, if you are relaxed and try to see the good side of things, you can get through most things in life.

But, you seem to hate every job or work experience as soon as you start it. What is it exactly you are looking for? What are your expectations for a job?

But it is only one more Monday till May Day (I feel your pain and find it better to count in Mondays, Tuesdays etc until the next holiday rather than days - gets me through) Good luck it is hard but we do get through.

Johnny, I think having spent a decade at the same level and because of personal issues I haven’t progressed in that time, maybe I loath the role as I feel I’ve the experience to be beyond this level?

I need to find something new. But totally get the “attitude” 100% part of my issue with the role is me.

I’ve been told it probably doesnt matter what I do, my mindset and rut I’ve /I’m in won’t allow me to enjoy “the best job in the world” so maybe I need to focus more on my physical/mental wellbeing but can that improve if I loath my job so much?

Thanks for your comment, very valid points.
