Mortgage when Credit History at Parents' Address

I am applying for a mortgage through a broker and due to moving around frequently and back home when between flats, have always kept everything registered at my parents' address. I have been renting in London with a friend for the last 6 months and pay all rent and bill money to him, so have no credit history at this address.

I am on the council tax bill but am not on the electoral register as only saw myself being here temporarily. I am on the electoral roll at my parents' address and am registered there for all bank accounts and credit cards and my driving license and car are also registered there as I cannot get a parking space in London.

My broker has advised that I can only apply for a mortgage from the address I am currently renting and so need call up the credit agencies and ask them to link my parents address to my current address which should resolve this issue. Is this good advice? I have checked my credit reports with all 3 agencies and have no associated addresses on any of them other than my parents address. I don't want to do anything that could negatively impact my chances of getting a mortgage. I have friends who successfully applied for mortgages using their parents address when in a similar situation but my broker has told me this is fraudulent.
