Ok for arguments sake, lets say you're in a job where the pay is pretty similar nation wide (with the exception of maybe london) eg marketing manager.

Pretty similar nationwide you picked the wrong job.

Try a job where salaries are effectively fixed like nurse.

Except property prices in london have been falling. significantly and consistently.
So this is really the worst possible advice.
Not so simple. Overpriced status-victim flats or new build rip-offs with dodgy leases, yes these kind of buyers are now scarce and there've been sharp price drops.

Meanwhile the kind of sensible commutable family properties in the London environs that take a bit of discovering - exactly what MSE readers would be looking for - well, their prices are staying stubbornly firm.

Oddly London offers some of the lowest return on investment on rental property in the UK. Which might make renting look 'relatively' good value.

I'm thinking of moving to Liverpool in a few years time. Houses are so much cheaper here than in the South West.

I like living in a big city, so another option is Manchester or similar.

Who said you HAVE to buy a house?

It certainly is NOT the case that people are too stupid or too lazy to get out of London, quite the opposite in fact.

Didn't you know that it is ingrained into people from being born that they MUST purchase a house to fit in with British society?
