4 tooth bridge options

Options
I had a 3 tooth bridge done on NHS nearly 28 years ago after a tooth broke and there was not enough left for a crown. The bridge is on the top right hand side from canine tooth going back. A couple of years ago I had problems with the back supporting tooth and it had to be removed so left me with 2 of the teeth which are so far holding up, but I hate the gap, food is always getting caught around it, and the difference in colour between these teeth with the rest of my teeth.

My dentist will only do a denture under NHS as she classed it as cosmetic once I mentioned the difference in colour as one of the reasons I wanted a bridge. She has said she can do the 4 tooth bridge option going from the canine to the tooth before the last one at the back as private at £350 (is that the going price?) a tooth.

I went to a different private dentist for a second opinion and he agreed with the 4 tooth bridge, but thought that 2 x 2 bridges would be better as less strain on the back tooth, but his quote was £200 more for the metal and porcelin option.

I am now ready to go ahead with the bridge and have gone back to my original dentist, but have now been given 2 options by her of £1,400 for a metal and porcelin 4 bridge and £1,920 for a zirconia ceramic bridge which she says will be stronger and a better looking finish. My dentist also thought the 2 x 2 bridges was a good idea, but after speaking to the technician she has gone back to the original 4 bridge option, but now thrown in the zirconia choice.

Has anyone had the zirconia ceramic bridge and can comment on them as this is a lot more expensive option but feel I should look at both options before deciding?

Discuss this with your dentist. Zirconium bridges can be a problem with people who grind or clench their teeth. They also need more tooth removed than a standard metal/porcelain bridge. More tooth removed means more chance of tooth dying off.
However zirconium sticks on really well and looks very good.

They are however an absolute nightmare to remove if any of the retainers need treatment in the future!
