How far away is that offer amount from what you are asking for/entitled to if you win?
This is why I think it's worth getting a lawyer involved a. the other side will take it more seriously if there is a legal professional on the other side and b. they'll be able to give a good appraisal of what could be won at tribunal.
Not legal advice, but a successful claim for discrimination resulting in dismissal would likely be a middle vento band award which is the best part of £9k at least, hence why I think the friend in the OP should push for more (also as the £5k is a first offer which will usually be lower than what they are willing to settle at) and it's worth getting a solicitor on board as I think a solicitor acting on your behalf would be able to win more than you would on your own, but that's just my view.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G.
