Your husband is a very very lucky man to be on such a high wage.(im using my SAHM account to reply)
I'm a home owner, Made redundant from a decent wage 5 years ago. We still live the life as im in that job, which was 3 miles away. Since being in the following job im now traveling 30+ miles away, 1 hours drive.(how can one give up their home)
We are struggling to live an enjoyable life doing things we used to do, My wages dont even break even to being a home owner, petrol costs, I can only afford 1 weeks shopping a month. I'd guess im taking upto £10,000 less a year now.
I supplement my wage with me doing qmee surveys every now and then to enable myself to buy small treats for myself(hobbies for example).
She(users account) boosts my income doing online bingo, online betting, match betting etc(i dont understand any of this stuff). Its a god send that she does is as she does bring in more money than doing a part time job(got to minus bus fare, extra food, Tax and insurance etc etc).
I work permanent night shifts leaving home at 20:45 and getting home the following day at 07:00. We share the house work, because some jobs a man is better than a woman and vise versa.
I do the deep cleaning, hoovering, Clean up after the pets, wash the car, hard to do spring cleaning and house maintenance.
We both cook(her 90% of the time, both wash up, and both do clothes washing).
This has worked for us for a long time, and i cant see it changing.
Out of my hand is my employers just dont do payrises, and this grinds my gears. I've not had a rise at all in all the time i've been in this job. Council tax alone as gone up exactly £30 a month while in this job, plus all the other stuff that has gone up.
The ironic thing is i used to be so much better of in this job in the 1st year of being in it. I was even getting at first £30 a month working tax credit, that dropped down to £15 after i had been there about a year, then promptly stopped a couple of months after that.
I'm doing 2 hours overtime Friday, So I shall sleep in my small car during thursday morning to afternoon. I'll save myself 2 hours driving, 60+ miles of driving, plus 60+ miles of petrol, plus 60+ miles of wear and tare. I shall require a small meal to supplement myself.
The good thing is money wise i'll have saved myself roughly £5, that is such a huge cash saving for myself and i'mm really looking forward to being £5 better of this month.
By the way im not getting paid for this overtime either. I dont get paid for overtime(WTA)0 -

Wow, are you a home owner too? i'm not much better of than him, and called HMRC to update them of my job income. I asked if we'll get any support and because im a home owner I was punished, they told me they wont help me pay my mortgage, They help other family members with their rent(im the only sibling of 5 who has its own house). they also get reduced council tax too.
I'm told because i earn to much(really) im not in any need of any benefits to supplement my wages and help pay for my daughters clothes and school uniform etc.0 -

Surely you are getting paid to work? If you're not being paid, then why go? (Sorry if I'm being ignorant!)
I too have slept in the car between jobs. This coming Sunday I am working 4am-12pm in one job, will probably work a couple of hours from home on freelance projects during the day and hopefully grab a couple of hours sleep before heading to my nightshift job at 9:15pm where I'll be until 6:30am.
It's hard isn't it? My Dad has always said there has to be sacrifice before you can enjoy what you've got, and I feel that this is our time of sacrificing. One day things will be great, and life will come easier. Chin up, we'll get there! :beer:Original mortgage total: £140,000.00 (July 2015) Original mortgage end date: June 2040
Mortgage free start date: 16th October 2018 Mortgage total at this point: £132,829.12
Current mortgage total: £54,762.71 Current mortgage end date: June 2032 Daily interest: £7.59 > £2.640 -
Have you looked into virtual PA work? Or setting up a property inventory company (this would work well with your letting agent contacts).0

Sadly in my skilled route i had gone down 15 years ago means its hard to get the job i'm good at, The announcement about a automotive manufacturer leaving the UK means it much harder to get a decent paid job in my town, I have to travel to supplement this loss.
This month alone I have applied for almost 10 jobs, I'm trying to get out of this industry and start afresh. It doesn't seem to be working, At the end of the day despite being underpaid for the job I do we are as a family paying the mortgage so all is not lost. I have been thinking really hard about getting a minimum paid job, Supplemented with lots of working tax credits etc to help kick start new new path.0 -
charityworker if your household income is only 12k you should consider claiming benefits while you look for work etc0
