I think this new religion is getting somewhat out of hand...
I can only conclude that you do not appreciate the threats posed by climate change. Please try to catch the BBC documentary tonight and then let us know if you still think the same...

I see enough propaganda and sermons regarding this on the web, I have no desire to watch more of it from the very Reverend Attenborough on TV.

The threats are exaggerated to the point of blatantly lying about it, and the blame laid in entirely the wrong places.
As it turns out, of the 79,000 metric tons of plastic in the patch, most of it is abandoned fishing gear—not plastic bottles or packaging drawing headlines today.

I also think the biggest damaging environmental impact we have is having kids.

That's like saying the biggest damaging impact to your face is your nose. If nobody has kids then after 100-odd years there is no-one around to be consciously aware of the existence of the environment, good or bad.

Mind you, most retired people don't have to worry about polluting the Earth with kids so it's a good way to justify your cruise trip. :)

    unpopular opinion:

I find it interesting we blame other countries for polluting yet continue happily buying stuff made there (i.e. china)

I do actually try and buy British, not always that easy and generally speaking, I think there is a perceptible shift towards buying more locally.

smug mode - I have no kids:p Though employing 23 drivers probably makes me a very, very bad person. And frankly, some days it is akin to having toddlers:rotfl:

There's also a high possibility most of our pensions are heavily invested in high polluting companies.

    ... Sorry very cynical today.

It is a shame, unless you live a naked vegan lifestyle in a compost heap you can't have an opinion on climate change.

But anyway, yes you probably are less polluting in retirement but by that age the damage seemingly is already done.

I should have realised...climate change denier. Watch it anyway, it should reinforce your prejudice.

The total cynic in me.............there always has to be an issue or cause to keep the common person down. When I was young we were going into the next ice age and the Russians were going to bomb us out of existence, then we had weapons of mass destruction and a need to flex our last Imperial muscles, along with climate change and the need to buy diesel cars. Now diesel is evil (unless you need it for your tanks) and we must pay a premium to shop.

I accept we need to care for the environment and try to leave the world a better place but please if we all do our bit, accept that there are differing levels of evangelism for the issue.

Why is that abuse? Do you deny that climate change is a serious problem, or not?

when i retire i will be more likely to train based holidays as they are more relaxing than flying and many offer sleeper services - i recently went to vienna on an overnight train but it does mean you take an extra couple of days of holiday time compare with flying - this is a good website promoting non flying holidays https://www.seat61.com/
