Hi,
We bought a house to rent it out and since over a year there are no tenants, hyndburn council sent bill with first 6 months with empty house 50% discount which ended last October.

Since Oct18 I am been paying full council tax even if the house is empty.

It's on Sale since last 3 Months.

My question is there any way to reduce bill?

Also advice if can be backdated?

I just today's MSE newsletter which says 25% discount of single person etc.

I did asked council to help, but they were not interesting in listening and asked to pay full rate even if house if empty since over 6 months now.

Just for info. I am 45 years old.

Any helpful advise is much appreciated.
Thankyou.

That's the law as it stands

Without anyone living there you are fully liable.

Should have been part of your initial research into letting.

I hope you are using a letting agents or are at least fully briefed on your responsibility as a landlord

You are lucky they are not charging you 150%. Why is it still empty after all this time?

Have you done a rice comparison with what has sold lately in your area relevant to your house? If you do and you find a wild disparity between the price you'r asking and the sold prices, you'll know whether or not you need to lower the price.
You are stuck with paying the full price I'm afraid, unless you move in there and claim a single person discount.
