Can someone help me wat the hourly rate would be?

Hi Guys,

I need your help, Im going round in circles and getting really confused.

What would the hourly rate be for the job below? I would like to compare it to the job I have now,also do you get paid for just the 39 weeks? Ive never worked a job term time only and I am rather confused how to work out if the job is better or not than mine.

Salary: £17,381 to £19,377 p.a. pro rata.
Job Type: 22.5 hours per week
Category: Support (Term Time Only)


I currently earn £10.00 per hour and do 27 hrs per week with the holiday allowance that goes with working the above, which annoyingly noone knows how many days it is, they think it accumulates to 12 days a year they think.

Based on £17,381 and on a normal working week of 37.5 hours, it would be …

17381 divided by 52 weeks which is 334.25 divided by 37.5 hours id 8.913 per hour.

So a week its 8.91 x 22.5 = 200.475

For 39 weeks that's 200.475x39 = 7818.525.

For term time contracts its normally paid monthly over 12 months, so you work 39 weeks, get the holidays off but get the pay spread over 12 months.

Well as it's pro rata, we're not really sure what the employer considers as 'full time' hours. We're also not aware of your age.

If we assume your over 25 years old and full time is considered 40 hours: a salary of between £17,381 and £19,377 translates to £334.25 to £372.63 a week translates to £8.36 to £9.32 an hour

Personally though, I wouldn't compare the 'hourly' wage and would instead compare actual salary if your intention is to just make the most money. £8.36 to £9.32 an hour (working 22.5 hours) translates to £188.02 to £209.61 a week (working 39 weeks per year) translates to £7,332.61 to £8174.67 you make a year.

Compare this to your current earnings income of 10 x 27 x 52 = £14,040 you make a year.

EDIT: Mark above has highlighted the importance of finding out what they consider full time.

Totally agree, was just saying if we based it on 37.5, but clearly if an employer works to a 38 hour or 40 or whatever it’s going to be slightly different.

I used to work a term time contract. It was based on a full time 37 hour week and I got holiday pay added on to the 39 weeks (in the region of an additional 6 weeks I believe). On that basis your £17381 would become £9146.70 (17,381 x 22.5/37)*(45/52) or £10.42 per hour. The employer should be able to tell you the pro-rata salary upon request.
