Where to buy preserving jars?

My friend has given me a carrier bag full of pears from the tree in her garden. I want to make jam and chutney for Xmas - if I put it in proper sterilised preserving jars will it last that long?

Anyway I need to get hold of some proper preserving jars before the pears go rotten, so there's no time to order them online. I'm going shopping tomorrow - does anyone know of any high street stores where I could buy preserving jars?

You can buy jars in Lakeland, but if you can get hold of some used ones there is no reason why you cannot reuse them if you sterilize them properly. Chutney will keep for a year or more

I bought some from Tesco's last year they had small and large. I'm sure that I have seen them in Wilkinson's and Robert Dyas.

Sure I saw them in Matalan last month. They were proper Kilner jars as I was realy surprised to see them there
